Kinseian
金生庵
Higashi-Ogu's Kinseian serves comforting neighbourhood soba classics, pairing richly simmered katsudon with half-bowls of tanuki soba alongside tendon and curry nanban.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
In Higashi-Ogu, Kinseian is the kind of neighbourhood noodle shop you head to when you want rice bowls and noodles deeply infused with savory dashi and soba broth. The katsudon stands out in particular: simmered in robustly seasoned soba broth, the pork cutlet takes on a rich, slightly bold flavour that calls for plenty of rice. Ordering it as the main event alongside a half-portion of tanuki soba—topped with crisp tempura bits in broth—delivers the dependable, hearty satisfaction unique to local soba joints.
The regular menu covers all the classic bases, with warm and chilled options ranging from tenmori (chilled soba with tempura) to kamo seiro (chilled noodles with warm duck dipping soup) and sukiyaki udon. At lunchtime, specials such as a flounder tendon set paired with either hot kake or chilled mori soba sometimes appear, drawing diners keen on fragrant deep-fried seafood and noodles together. Thick, broth-infused curry udon and curry nanban also earn consistent praise, offering deeply warming bowls full of unpretentious character.
The clean, white-toned dining room is laid out with booth seating and oval tables, creating a calm, relaxed environment well suited to a quiet solo lunch or an unhurried, comfortable meal. Note that payment is cash only, so having yen ready will keep your visit seamless.
